Blush and Blue

Have I told you my rule about adding clothing to my wardrobe? This isn’t any sort of minimalistic approach to life- I have two closets filled with clothes- and you won’t be tossing out 5 years of post grad clothing in lieu of this rule. You’ll just take a look at clothing a little differently once you learn it.
But first a backstory: I work in an office and have worked in one since I graduated college. Post-college, under the guidance of my mother- who left the workforce in the early 2000’s- informed me that pantyhose were a must for professional working women. So off to Nordstrom I went to buy some pantyhose for work.

I already had a decent base of pencil skirts and trousers from my Sorority’s business chapter meetings, and when I showed up to work on my first day to my surprise, everyone was very casual! Jeans with blouses surrounded me, not a pair of pantyhose in sight, and forget about wearing matching suit pieces. I came home and developed a new work outfit strategy: if I were to go shopping for work clothes they must be wearable on the weekend or outside of the office.

So more modest than typical clothing has been my moniker for the last 4 years. Dresses are a constant rotation at work paired with a blazer or a cardigan, especially shirt dresses like this bird print one from Dainty Jewells. My beloved Martie pants have accompanied me to brunches on the weekend, and a hemline that falls just above the knee no longer feels matronly when done the right way.
While a flowy pink skirt might not be practical every day, for special occasions or even bridesmaids, Dainty Jewell’s has some of the nicest selection of mid-length and long skirts in a variety of sizes. I’m wearing a small that I’ve belted around my waist, but typically this skirt is worn at your hips. Paired with my favorite casual “tee” and a Julie Vos pendant, this is an easy Summery look that can take you from rose tea to rosé anytime during the warmer months.
