End of Summer Approved Shirt Dress

You never forget your first. That’s what they always say about a lot of things you love, for me that’s shirtdresses. I remember it like it was yesterday: I paired the shirtdress with a chunky coral colored necklace,  a pair of grey tights tucked into cowboy boots and cinched at the waist with a belt. My college (and the late 2000’s) fashion choices were a bit on the “more is more” accessory level, but the shirtdress still shone through as the best piece of clothing I had in my closet. Fast forward almost 10 years and my shirtdress collection has increased tenfold featuring a variety of colors and textures like this Gal Meets Glam Beatrice Shirtdress.

One of the biggest appeals of a shirt dress is how versatile it is. Worn for work or weekends, the versatility is limitless and you’ll never look sloppy in an A-line skirt and collard dress wherever your day may take you. I will always be an advocate for a piece of clothing that can be worn for more than one occasion and in multiple seasons. This Gal Meets Glam Beatrice shirtdress is the perfect linen color to take you from Fall through Summer and you’ll likely see me wear it multiple ways. Just a note to order a size up in this dress. I am normally a size 2 in JCrew dresses and the two in this dress was just way too tight on the upper body.

Currently, I wanted to pair them with my vintage Ferragamo flats. I wish I could say that I inherited these from some eccentrically stylish relative, but the truth is I was on Etsy and searched for “1980’s white flats” for a costume party I attended earlier this year when these popped up. As fate would have it, these vintage white Ferragamo’s were priced at $40 and just my size. I didn’t even hesitate to add them to my cart. When I got them in the mail, I immediately slipped them on and noticed the rubber caps on the bottom were broken, so they went off to my favorite shoe repair store in Atlanta, spent $15 to replace the caps and we were off and running!

Needless to say, this outfit will serve me well today, and ten years from now. You can never beat a classic shirtdress and a pair of timeless flats for an outfit.

Have you shopped the new Gal Meets Glam collection? This is my first piece and I’m loving it.

  • Don’t you just love the gal meets glam collection? Their shirt dress looks fab on you! Was definitely on my list to buy and I think you were the push I needed to get it! Love it!

    • Hi Karen, yes I do! Julia really knows how to make a feminine and well-structured piece of clothing! I so appreciate that everything is lined! Biggest pet peeve to spend a lot of money on a dress to find out it’s sheer.

      Best,

    • Thank you Emily! I am forever indebted to the classic silhouette of a shirt dress! I love Vintage shoes! They are made so much better than new shoes!

  • Hi there! What size did you buy in this dress? I am built similarly to you (normally a size 2 but with a bust). I’m debating between a 2 and a 4!

  • I”m so glad I found your post. I’ve been on the fence about buying this dress for a while but seeing your pictures with a better look at the details and texture has me thinking that I’ll finally pull the trigger

    • Yay! It’s a beautiful shirtdress but I will say there is relatively limited movement upwards in the arm area. I think it’s meant for someone with more narrow shoulders and or just be cautioned and order a size up.
