Perfecting Low Country Living at Montage Palmetto Bluff

Two of my friends told me about Montage Palmetto Bluff over four years ago during a time in which I wasn’t quick to store things in my notes and would forget the name as soon as I heard it. It wasn’t until I had the opportunity to visit the HGTV Smart Home in Palmetto Bluff that I was reintroduced to this gem on the coast of South Carolina.

As soon as you drive onto the property of Palmetto Bluff you can feel the calm of the low country lifestyle settle in. This 20,000-acre property is more than just a retreat but a residential wonderland where you can indulge in all of the best outdoor sports, golf, hunting, boating, and my personal favorite, horseback riding. I got whiplash driving past the equestrian facilities on my way into the property and decided at that moment that I would one day have a home here just so I could use their stables for my future horse.

As I finally drove up to the Montage, the sun was just starting to dip behind the palm trees and the front of the mansion estate was enveloped in a warm glow. The valet’s quickly whisked away my car and I was whisked into another world- one that didn’t have clocks and barely any cell reception, but here it didn’t quite matter because there was a lot to do and so much time to do it even if you were like me and were only there for one night. 

I think that’s one of my favorite things about the low country, they have perfected slow and intentional living. Low country living is nothing like living on island time. Living on island time still has a perception that you will be beach bumming it under the heat of the sun, but low country living embraces moving slowly to escape the heat of the day with a book on the porch and with plans to have no plans at all. Will I take one of the boats out at sunset or go on a bike ride around the property? Am I going to partake in the non-obligatory but highly encouraged “Porching Hour” (a Montage Palmetto Bluff take on happy hour) or indulge in s’mores by the fire pit before a late dinner?

When you’re low country living at the Montage Palmetto Bluff, all of these scenarios are perfectly good options for that evening but there is no rush to make a decision because you know it’s going to be there when you want to partake in it and if you need some assistance, the lovely concierge will phone it in for you.

I now know why my friends who informed me about the Montage were so eager to spread their love of it to excitedly tell me about it when they returned: there is truly no place else that matches the atmosphere of the Montage in Palmetto Bluff and when you visit it, it will become a part of your soul so long as you live. I know it sounds cliche but you will understand when you pay it a visit.
