Picking Out the Perfect Christmas Tree

Up near my parents’ house there is the most spectacular Christmas tree farm at Scottsdale Farm & Garden Market. Each year, I love making the pilgrimage (for a city girl, this is WAY Outside The Perimeter), and spending the afternoon drinking a chocolate chai tea, ogling at the beautiful firs they have lined up in the field and contemplating which of red-ribboned Christmas wreaths that hang alongside the exterior barn wall I will bring home with me.

I realize that the request would be moot, but it would be spectacular if we could stretch the Christmas season out to last longer than just the end of December. Wouldn’t it be great to have three full months of Christmas during winter-weather? I love decorating my apartment in rich plaids, reds and greens and settling in by the fire while the Christmas tree glows in the background and my favorite Christmas tree plays on the television.

Even though we only have a proper thirty days to enjoy the Christmas spirit, I fill all thirty of those with as much Christmas cheer as possible, which means visiting my favorite outdoor Christmas tree farm.

Sadly, my apartment won’t let us have live trees in our building (due to fire hazards as you would) so I have to settle for the fake firs and garlands but I love shopping for a Christmas tree regardless. It always reminds me of the suburban lifestyle I lived in my youth where the weekend after Thanksgiving we would pile into the Explorer and head down the road to the parking lot turned Christmas Tree forest at the neighboring Home Depot.

Not until my parents moved out to “the country”/ Alpharetta, did we start finding garden centers that have decked their property out as a Southern Winter Wonderland and I made it my prerogative to visit this place each year to jump start the Holiday spirit.

Nothing compares to how gorgeous this place is when it’s adorned in Christmas Cheer.
