Gypsy Kitchen

While unpacking our new home all day, we were working up quite a hunger. We grabbed a quick lunch, but hadn’t had time to settle into a full meal the whole weekend while we moved cities. 

Dinner time rolled around and we knew just the spot to hit-the-spot just down the road: Gypsy Kitchen.

Gypsy Kitchen just recently launched their new menu and we were excited to see what this Moroccan and Spanish infusion restaurant had newly to offer. Plus, unpacking the house really left me needing a drink, and Gypsy Kitchen’s cocktails are some of the most unique and delicious in Atlanta. 

 

The interior is impeccably designed; no detail was left out when they designed the space. Quatrefoil patterned windows overlook patrons as they eat from beautiful red leather couches. 

Large trees spring from the wood floor as if they’ve been growing there for ages.

And my favorite nook, the red room with this gorgeous chandelier, is overlooked by the Bull on the bar, who is festively dressed for Santa this time of year. 

If you thought the decor stopped there, you’d be shameful to not take a seat outside on a night as beautiful as this one. 

This El Nino, although horrible for wanting to dress in winter clothes, is great for stretching patio season out just a little bit longer. 

So we grabbed a seat with Hermes behind us, and got to ordering cocktails.   

With recommendations from our waiter, Steven (he’s the best!), I got a coupe of Leather & Silk: made of gin, chartreuse, velvet falernum and lime. It was as delicious as it is beautiful and matched the Marquee sign quite nicely. 
Not wanting to waste a minute, we ordered a charcuterie board that was quickly followed by pickled beats, fois gras escabeche, a savory chickpea pancake, uni stuffed eggs and lamb tartare. 

My dilemma with beats continues with this dish, I just don’t like beats unless they are char roasted, but Andrew gobbled them up happily. He said they were some of the best! He’s Southern, his opinion should count. 

We need to have a moment of silence for how delicious the fois gras was. I can say that Gypsy Kitchen without a doubt does fois gras better than some of the French restaurants I’ve been to in my life. I highly recommend this. 

The Chickpea Pancake was quite good. Very filling, so if you want an appetizer as an entree, this would be a good thing to order. The Uni Deviled Eggs, while overall were good, I didn’t care for the seafood taste that lingered after you had finished. The lamb tartare was exceptionally prepared and was good with the grilled bread that was served with it.  As if what we had wasn’t enough, we ordered a couple of main dishes and I feel madly, deeply in love with some duck tacos.  If you order one thing, let it be those tacos. Wow they were so amazing. The flavors were spot on and I didn’t mind that I was already filling up from the appetizers, I could have eaten ten more plates of those and been content with myself.  Next their signature dishes came out: Seafood Paella, Grilled Spanish Octopus,  Littleneck clams in garlic wine sauce, lamb tangine, and Gulf Shrimp a la plancha.  The Paella was amazing. Absolutely some of the best Paella I’ve had. The sauce I could have eaten with a spoon and the seafood was so fresh. I will be coming back for this again and again. The Gulf Shrimp a la plancha and little neck clams were excellent! Two of my favorite seafood items and both dishes were prepared spectacularly. The garlic shrimp was dripping in the most heavenly butter sauce. We realized we had room for just a smidge of dessert so we ordered their Churros with Chocolate sauce, rice pudding and pound cake with pineapple. 

The churros were my favorite, but the pound cake was a second runner up! If there had been chocolate on the pineapple pound cake, it would have won me over more though. 

You really can’t beat the food, atmosphere and service at Gypsy Kitchen. Make sure you put it on your Bucketlist of places to eat at in Atlanta!
