You guys! I have the biggest most exciting announcement to make… we have launched a product!
And you can now buy it! And it’s going to support young women in the process! WOO!
I am so excited to announce that the first ever Darling Down South private label product is available for purchase, right here!! With the help of my amazingly talented friend, Hannah Betzel Fine Art, we’ve created this beautiful 100% silk scarf for you to wear ALL YEAR LONG in a feminine and versatile color palette. PLUS we’re doing a little good with it and donating 10% of ALL of the profits to our favorite girl-empowering charity in Atlanta, Cool Girls! AHH!
Launching a product is potentially one of the most nerve-wracking things to do. Anyone who sells anything online knows how difficult it is to make that first sale, and when you’re talking about a private label product that is only available on our website for a limited time, it means extra pressure.
So Cynthia, why would you make such a complicated product to sell when you could just sell other products on a storefront?
Great question omnipresent question asker!
Because I wanted the opportunity to create something unique and beautiful for each and every one of you.
Believe it or not, but at one time in my life, I wanted to be a dress designer. My mom may be partially entitled to the inspiration for this because she famously made clothes for us for a variety of occasions. Jean skirt overalls with plaid accents and a matching hat, my mom made it. A fairy wing costume complete with life-size fairy wings, my mom made it. So to me, sketching out a dress design (always 18th century French inspired full gowns, mind you) seemed like a natural and perfectly acceptable career to focus on. What eight-year-old wouldn’t want to wear a gown while she’s romping around the woods finding sticks to build tree forts with?
Fast forward to the date of the inception of the idea, it was Labor Day weekend, I was on the internet typing furiously away at some post about something, then I took an Instagram break and saw a new piece of art my friend Hannah had listed and a thought popped into my head, “Ask Hannah to make a print for your readers so we can print it onto a scarf.”
That was it, that thought which turned into me scouring the internet on “companies to create silk scarves” and many variations of, almost signing the deed on a scarf producer who was going to charge me an astronomical amount of money and said the lead time would be 4 weeks longer than what I wanted, and then in the 11th hour changing to a local supplier who gave me a better deal and got the product in my hand just before Christmas.
Let me tell you that the whole in-between conception to creation was so eye-opening and extremely involved.
And now, here we are, where I’m able to give to you an amazingly high quality, 100% silk piece of art that you can wear every day of the year, with hand rolled edges and each scarf is able to provide 10 STEM exercises to an inner-city young girl in need or education outreach for 10 girls, or fitness training for 10 girls.
While my original goal in life may have been to make fantastic ball gown dresses come to life solely for me to romp around the forest like a woodland nymph, now we can create this amazing product for all of you to benefit young women who need a little encouragement and to feel empowered.
We can’t wait to see how you wear your scarf and to thank you for being a loyal follower, we are offering you 20% off your first order with code “LOVELY” at checkout!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,
Cynthia & Hannah
